Topaz gets its name from the greek word Topazion, which may originate from sanskrit word“tapas”meaning “fire”.Alternative theory suggests the name’s origin related to egyptian island of topazos in the red sea.

In 1740, the “braganza” diamond (1640 carats) was found in brazil.
It was set in portugese crown . It was thought to be the largest diamond ever found but now considered to be a giant colourless topaz

 It derives from ancient Greek word “AMETHUSTOS” meaning “intoxicate” , a reference to the belief the the stone protected its owner from drunkenness. In Greek mythology, Amethyst was rock crystal dyed purple by tears of Dionysus, the god of wine and revelry.
